Leadwork

Traditional leadwork for roofs, flashings, valleys & details.

Based in Fife — working across Scotland

What we do

  • Code-correct lead flashings, soakers, aprons and valley linings.
  • Lead-lined gutters, box gutters and parapet details on period roofs.
  • Bay roofs, dormer cheeks and chimney weatherings dressed by hand.
  • Long-life detailing that keeps water out of historic stonework.

Problems we fix

  • Split or lifted flashings around chimneys and abutments
  • Leaking box gutters and parapet gutters
  • Cement fillets used where lead should have been
  • Water ingress at dormers, bays and valleys

Questions

Why use lime mortar rather than cement?
Traditional stone buildings were built to breathe. Cement pointing is harder than the stone, so trapped moisture escapes through the sandstone face instead of the joint — which is what causes spalling and damp. Lime mortar is softer and breathable, so the wall dries out and the stone survives.
Do you work on listed buildings?
Yes. We work with traditional materials and conservation-minded methods. Listed building consent is usually required for external work — we're happy to talk through what your property needs before you apply.
Do you provide free surveys?
Yes. Every enquiry starts with a free survey and a written, no-obligation quote. If we don't think work is needed, we'll say so.
How far do you travel?
We're based in Fife and work across Scotland, including Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Stirling and the surrounding areas. Tell us where the property is and we'll confirm.
